School Tea Towel Project

Exciting News – School Tea Towel Project!
You may have heard whispers from the kids… we’re excited to announce that St Brigid’s is creating a school tea towel!
Each student has been working on their own self-portrait and the final design will show the whole school together! These tea towels will be available to purchase in Term 4, a perfect keepsake and a lovely gift idea for family and friends as we head into the festive season. Stay tuned for more updates!

Our Gospel Reflection

Tellingly, it is the question that elicits the answer in today’s Gospel. Jesus is the Christ who is unafraid to ask and listen before affirming what is true.
This is an idea which Pope Leo XIV picks up on. Reflecting on how his predecessor and namesake ‘lived in an age of momentous and disruptive change’, Leo clearly admires how Leo XIII ‘sought to promote peace by encouraging social dialogue between capital and labour, technology and human intelligence, and different political cultures and nations.’
The Church’s social doctrine, these popes remind us, is not incompatible with dialogue. Leo calls on Christians to seek ‘to learn how to confront problems, for these are always different, since every generation is new, and faces new challenges, dreams and questions.’
It is therefore always imperative that we listen to the voices of the poor and marginalised, Leo says. ‘Their viewpoints,’ he points out, ‘are vital if we are to see the world through God’s eyes.’
Reminding us that the Second Vatican Council called the Church to engage in ‘reading the signs of the times and of interpreting them in the light of the Gospel’, Leo invites us ‘to participate actively and creatively in this discernment process, and thus contribute, with all of God’s people, to the development of the Church’s social doctrine in this age of significant social changes, listening to everyone and engaging in dialogue with all.’
From Our Acting Principal

I would like to extend my sincere sympathy to Jan Condon, Dan Prentice and their families on the recent passing of Jim Dwyer, Jan’s dad and Dan’s grandfather. Please keep the Dwyer family in your thoughts and prayers at this sad time.
It is hard to believe that we are in the final two weeks of term. We still have a lot to look forward to as a school community over the next six school days.
We are excited for our Athletics Carnival this Thursday 26th June. While events and personal bests are part of the fun, this is first and foremost a community day—a time to cheer one another on and enjoy time together outdoors. The schedule for the day was shared on Compass and while we will try and run to the times, this is only a guide. Parents and carers are warmly invited to attend and support their children. Our local Rotary club will cook sausage sandwiches for purchase and a coffee van will also be at the grounds. Thank you to Mrs Hayley Catlin for her hard work in preparing for the event.
On Saturday night, everyone is welcome to attend our Parish Family Mass at 5pm with pizza to be shared after Mass. The night then continues with the One Night, One Stage performance at the Memorial Hall. This is a fundraiser with performances by LACRO, McAuliffe School of Dance & Ascent Dance in support of the Wakakirri dance performance next term. Tickets are still available at the school office with the performance beginning at 6pm.

Next week, we will celebrate NAIDOC week with activities across Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. During the week we celebrate the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It's also a time for us to learn about, acknowledge, and appreciate the rich heritage of Indigenous Australians. The week also serves as an opportunity to recognise the ongoing contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples within our community. Thank you to Stacey Wimble and Courtney Hyde for the work associated with creating the events.

Next Thursday 3rd July, we celebrate our Rewards Day with a choice of two movies at the Kyogle cinemas. Students will walk down to the cinemas at the conclusion of recess to view the movie of choice. I thank all students who have followed our behaviour expectations this term. Thank you also to the PBS team and Mrs Hyde for organising this reward.

Lastly, a friendly reminder that next Friday 4th July is a pupil free day. Staff will be off site for the day with no one even in the office. Please ensure that this date is placed on your calendar.
Enjoy the week ahead and please reach out to the school if you have any questions or need clarification on anything.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
Vanessa Walters,
Acting Principal.

Wellbeing Team
The wellbeing of every child is at the heart of all we do. We understand that growing up comes with its ups and downs, and sometimes our students need a little extra support to navigate life’s challenges. Our caring school counsellor, Megan Ritchie, is here to walk alongside your child and provide gentle, timely support when they need it most.
How Our Counselling Service Supports Your Child:
- Working Together: Megan collaborates closely with teachers, families, and school staff, and when needed, with outside professionals, to ensure your child receives the best care and support tailored to their unique situation.
- Understanding Needs: We know that every child is different. Before counselling begins, we thoughtfully consider whether it’s the right step, taking into account your child’s needs, any other support they might already be receiving, and whether some adjustments in the classroom might help them flourish.
- Short-term Support: Our counselling service offers short-term, focused support aimed at helping your child cope with specific issues and build resilience.
- Respecting Families: We deeply respect the vital role that families play as your child’s first and most important teachers. For students under 14, we ask for parental consent before beginning counselling. For students aged 14 and older, they may seek support independently if they feel ready to do so.
- Clear and Compassionate Communication: We understand that family situations can be complex. When parents are separated, we work with both to ensure clear, respectful communication about consent and confidentiality, always keeping your child’s wellbeing at the centre.
- Support in Difficult Times: In rare and urgent situations that impact a student’s safety or emotional wellbeing, Megan and our staff provide immediate care and comfort. In these moments, parental consent may not be required, but we will keep you informed as soon as possible.
We are committed to nurturing your child’s growth and happiness and are here to support them through whatever challenges they face. If you have any questions, concerns, or would like to connect with Megan Ritchie, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Stay golden,
Megan Ritchie,
School Counsellor - megan.ritchie@lism.catholic.edu.au

Community Forum
As we approach the end of Term 2, we want to extend a big thank you to everyone who has helped and supported our school community. We also have a few exciting projects on the go, and we’d love to update you and invite your voice as we plan ahead.

Before the term ends, we’d love your feedback on two important topics:
1. Newsletter Frequency:
We’re considering changing the school newsletter from weekly to fortnightly, with a shorter, informal update on alternate weeks to share quick news, awards, and reminders.
👉 Would this work for your family? Let us know what you think or share any suggestions here: [Click here to give your feedback].
2. Ideas for School Enrichment:
We’re planning to invest in items that will enrich our students’ time at school, some of the great suggestions from our last meeting included:
New sports equipment for recess and lunch
Additions to the Wellness Mat
Prayer boxes for classrooms
We’ll be collating all ideas and costings over the break, ready to discuss at our first meeting of Term 3 – Tuesday 5th August at 3:30pm in the school library.
Please send your ideas through before the end of this term so we can prepare!
👉 Share your suggestions here: [Click here to submit your ideas].
