In Science and Technology we have been learning about geological events. As part of this, we designed buildings that could withstand an Earthquake. We simulated an Earthquake and most of our buildings survived quite well with only minimal damage. We have really enjoyed Science this term!

Our Gospel Reflection

The Church, Pope Leo XIV reminds us, is called to be ‘a city set on a hill’, as well as ‘an ark of salvation sailing through the waters of history and a beacon that illuminates the dark nights of this world.’
A city, an ark, a beacon. Three different images, but always one thing. We are called, as Jesus prayed at the Last Supper, to be one.
Because the unity of ‘the entire mystical Body of the Church’ is critical to who we are, our Eucharistic celebrations, therefore, must never become opportunities for exclusion. Our liturgies should always proclaim to the world the healing and all-inclusive power of Christ.
Indeed, as Leo suggests, the Church most authentically witnesses to Christ ‘not so much through the magnificence of her structures or the grandeur of her buildings … but rather through the holiness of her members.’
And holiness, properly understood, is a type of human wholeness. It is devout, but not dour. It is fulsome, not fanatical. True holiness, the Pope notes, reflects ‘joyful faith in Jesus the Saviour.’ We are called to be joyful because we are people of the Resurrection!
As such, joy should always infuse our sharing of the good news. Joyous news, after all, is most attractive when it is joyfully shared.
From Our Acting Principal

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Mr Tony Hunter on his Principal Appointment at St. Francis Xavier in Ballina. Tony has committed the last nine years to St Brigid’s and we were so very fortunate to have had him provide outstanding leadership and support to our school community during this time. On behalf of our school community, I thank Tony for his time at St. Brigid’s and wish him all the very best with his appointment in Ballina. There will be an opportunity for the school community to thank him for his time in the coming months.
I will continue as Acting Principal at St Brigid’s Primary School, Kyogle for the remainder of the 2025 school year. The recruitment process for the substantive Principal position will commence soon.
One Night, One Stage Dance Concert
This one time only show is a celebration of community and creativity coming together to support St Brigid’s with the students journey to Wakakirri in Brisbane. This fundraising event held on Saturday 28th June, combines the talents of LACRO, McAuliffe School of Dance and Ascent Dance to provide a night of entertainment with movement, music and storytelling. Tickets can be pre-purchased from http://events.humanitix.com/one-night-one-stage
The concert is the same night as our Parish Family Mass which starts at 5pm with the concert beginning at 6pm in the Memorial Hall. A big thank you to Hayley Catlin, Lara Farrah, Ali Goldthrope & the Wakakirri Parent Team along with the three dance schools for their time and energy in coordinating such a wonderful event to support our Wakakirri students.
Pupil Free Day
Just a friendly reminder that our last day of Term 2, Friday 4th July will be a Pupil Free Day. Staff will be off site on this day so please ensure that you have this date marked on your calendar.
School Uniform
As the cooler weather has quickly crept in, I ask you to please ensure students are in the correct winter uniform. Boys and girls can wear navy tracksuits pants or girls may wear blue tights under their skort with the school jumper or jacket. Please ensure all jumpers or jackets are labelled.
Have a wonderful week ahead and I look forward to catching parents and caers at our athletics carnival next Thursday.
Vanessa Walters,
Acting Principal.
Assistant Principal - Learning & Teaching

Congratulations to all our students who participated in the Write On Competition in 2025. We started off the process with 20 students and completed the process with 10 entrants.
Stage 1 | Layla, Rylie-Jayne, Callie, David, Banjo. |
Stage 2 | Ella, Harlow, Eliza. |
Stage 3 | Nerida, Lilliana. |
Unfortunately, each school can only submit a maximum of 3 entries: one entry per stage from Stage 1, Stage 2, and/or Stage 3. This year the finalists for the St Brigid’s Write On Competition are:
Stage 1 | Callie |
Stage 2 | Ella |
Stage 3 | Nerida |
Their writing will be entered in the WriteOn Competition and we will await any further correspondence from WriteOn, where a panel comprised of experienced NSW primary teachers, from NESA and educational sectors, judge the final entries submitted to NESA.
As a celebration of our students learning, stamina and commitment to the WriteOn Competition, I am publishing all student writing in the school newsletter. All participants will be receiving an award at this weeks assembly. We are so proud of their achievements!

Parish School Family Mass
On Saturday, the 28th of June at 5 pm, we have our Whole School Parish Family Mass. We warmly encourage all families to join us to celebrate Mass together and share a pizza dinner afterwards. Please scan the QR code below for catering purposes.
What is a Whole School Parish Family Mass?
During the school term, the fourth Sunday is our whole school Parish Family Mass. This means that the school prepares the slides and staff are actively involved in the celebration of mass through reading, selecting music, organising Children’s Liturgy, and hosting a meal afterwards.
The Parishioners love seeing families come along to these Masses, and it is a great way for children to be involved and for families to evangelise their children. We are a Catholic school, and it is because of the strength of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish over the last 110 years that our Catholic School has been a place of excellence in Catholic Education. It is so important that we continue to support each other, and for the Parish to be visible in our school and for the families of our school to be visible and a part of our Parish.
What is Children’s Liturgy?
The Children’s Liturgy refers to when the children present at Mass leave before the Liturgy of the Word and gather in a separate place where they explore and celebrate the Liturgy of the Word in a way that is more appropriate to their age and level of understanding. Our teachers will often read a Children’s version of the Gospel and engage in questions and answer time about the text before completing a responding activity based on the Gospel. The children return to the Mass in time to receive the Eucharist and/or a blessing from Fr Jo.
